Nine New Members Elected for NEC

Heng SamrinNine new members were elected for National Election Committee (NEC) by Cambodian Members of NECParliament (MPs) this morning.

They were approved by 113/117 of MPs attending in the 4th Plenary Session of Hun Sen in PaliamentNational Assembly (NA) held this morning under the chairmanship of Samdech Akka Moha Ponhea Chakrei Heng Samrin, President of the NA.

Of the newly-appointed members, four are from the Ruling Cambodian People’s Party (CPP), and four from the main opposition Cambodia National Rescue Party (CNRP). One member is a “neutral” candidate.   Continue reading

PM: The Two Election-Related Proposed Laws To Be Approved by NA

image001Samdech Akka Moha Sena Padei Techo Hun Sen, Prime Minister of the Kingdom of Cambodia, expressed his optimism that the two proposed laws related to election reform will be approved by the National Assembly (NA).

Cambodia PM: Electoral Reform Will Not End in Deadlock

NA Holds an Extraordinary Session

image001The National Assembly (NA) of Cambodia held here this morning an extraordinary session of image002the 5th legislature to discuss and approve the request to amend the new Principle 6 of the NA’s internal regulations.

The session took place under the presidency of NA President Samdech image003Akka Moha Ponhea Chakrei Heng Samrin with the participation of 122 parliamentary members of the ruling Cambodian People’s Party (CPP) and the main opposition Cambodia National Rescue Party (CNRP).

Addressing to the meeting, Samdech Akka Moha Sena Padei Techo Hun Sen, Prime Minister of Cambodia and Vice President of CPP, welcomed the presence of the 55 CNRP’s lawmakers at the session. He also called on the public to note down the CPP-CNRP leaders’ comments this time, and requested the CNRP to stop “coloring” (slandering) and to reduce criticizing each other in all forms. CPP-CNRP Top Leaders Report to His Majesty the King about the Political Agreement

Sam Rainsy on Thursday image003afternoon led their delegations to pay their courtesy call on and report to His Majesty Norodom Sihamoni, King of Cambodia, about the July 22 political agreement.

According to the National Television of Cambodia, the delegation from the CPP included image004H.E. Say Chhum, First Vice President of the Senate and Chairman of the Permanent Committee of the CPP Central Committee, and H.E. Sar Kheng, Deputy Prime Minister, Minister of Interior, and Permanent Member of the CPP Central Committee. The components from the CNRP were H.E. Kem Sokha, Vice President, and H.E. Pol Ham, Standing Committee Chairman.

On the occasion, Prime Minister Samdech Techo Hun Sen said it was a great day that the leaders of the two parties paid a courtesy call on His Majesty the King to report about the remarkable outcomes of the political settlements for the interests of the country and people as a whole. CPP, CNRP Agree to End the Political Crisis

image001The top-level talks between the ruling Cambodian People’s Party (CPP) and the main opposition Cambodia National image003Rescue Party (CNRP) ended this afternoon with fruitful image004outcomes, H.E. Prum Sokha, a senior CPP official, told reporters at a joint press conference after the talks.

The negotiations, held at the Senate Office from 09:00 am to nearly 02:00 pm, _MG_8345ended successfully with fruitful results, said H.E. Prum Sokha, adding that the leaders of CPP and CNRP agreed on seven important points to settle the year-long political crisis following the parliamentary elections on July 28, 2013.

Both parties agreed to work together in the National Assembly (NA) towards solving national issues based on the principles of democracy and the rule of law, he underlined, affirming that the CNRP’s elected lawmakers will take oath and attend the NA’s session soon. Continue reading
