Cambodia Breaks Guinness World Record for Largest Madison Dance

Bun ranyCambodia broke the Guinness World Record for the largest Madison dance with 2,015 participants, announced this afternoon in Madisonthe cultural province of Siem Reap by visiting Ms. Seyda Subasi Gemici, who represented Guinness World Records.

This largest ever Madison dance was organized by the Union of Youth Federations of Cambodia (UYFC) on the occasion of Angkor Sankranta 2015 to celebrate the Khmer Traditional New Year from April 14 to 16. Continue reading

Cambodian PM Calls for Creation of More Arts Programs

His Majesty Presides Over the First Day of Water Festival

image016His Majesty Norodom Sihamoni, King of Cambodia, presided over here this afternoon Water Festival, along image019with National Assembly President Samdech Akka Moha Ponhea Chakrei Heng Samrin, Prime Minister Samdech Akka Moha Sena Padei Techo Hun Sen, senators, lawmakers, senior government officials as image022well as foreign diplomats to Cambodia.
Boat racing, one of the biggest events of the image006ceremony, began at 11:00 am with 125 pairs of boats for 1,700-meter distance, along the Tonle Sap River.
According to the Committee for Organizing National and image011International Festivals, the celebration has been attended by 248 boats and some 17,420 boat rowers.
The number of this year’s boats is less than 2010’s, some 179 boats, said the committee.
image012Besides boat racing, 10 illuminated boats from public institutions including Royal Palace, Senate, National Assembly, Government, Ministry of Justice, Ministry of National Defense, Ministry of image026Interior, Ministry of Commerce, Ministry of Tourism, and the Phnom Penh Municipality, are image030expected to join in the image028festival, starting from this evening until Friday, image031together with setting off image029the fireworks.

Royal Ashes’ Procession Kicks Off

image012The procession of the late King-Father Samdech Preah Norodom Sihanouk’s image004ashes to Preah Keo Morakot Pagoda(Silver Pagoda) in the Royal Palace kicked off this image044morning with sadness of the whole Cambodian people, royal families and leaders.

The ceremony was attended by His Majesty the King Norodom Sihamoni and Her Majesty the Queen-Mother Norodom Monineath Sihanouk, Cambodian top leaders, including National Assembly Samdech Akka Moha Ponhea Chakrei Heng Samrin and Prime Minister Samdech Akka image017Moha Sena Padei Techo Hun Sen, government officials and foreign diplomats.

The King-Father’s royal urns were marched from Prasat Tevea Vinichay, Royal image004Palace, towards Preah Norodom Blvd. by passing through the National Museum, then continue to the Independence Monument and the King-Father’s Royal Statues where 90 Buddhist monks were waiting to chant and pray for the soul of the King-Father at each image012stopover, before coming back to the Royal Palace.

The procession was composed of four groups with a total participants of over 4,000. The first group was the Victory Group with 492 participants showing the potential of the armed forces and the youth; while the second was the Group of Civil Servants, Judicial Body, Legislative Body, and Buddhism with 339 participants; the third was the Group of Government officials and Brahmanism with 289 participants; and the fourth was for the Royal Urns with 852 participants.
