PM Presides Over the Celebration of 151st Word Red Cross and Red Crescent Day

image001Samdech Akka Moha Sena Padei Techo Hun Sen, Prime Minister of Cambodia, presided image003over this morning the 151st World Red Cross and Red Crescent (May 8) at the headquarters of Cambodian Red Cross (CRC) in Phnom Penh.

Samdech Kittiprittbandit Bun Rany Hun Sen, image005President of CRC, expressed thanks to local and overseas charitable people, especially His Majesty the King, Her Majesty the Queen-Mother and the Royal Government of Cambodia (RGC) who have always supported whole-heartedly the CRC’s humanitarian activities without discrimination.

This year’s topic is “Cambodian Red Cross and I”, it is a message to remind all compatriots about how to link individuals to the work of CRC and World Red Crescent, Samdech Bun Rany Hun Sen said.

With the results of “Humanitarian Power” and “Sharing Culture” along with the strengthening of the foundation of the Red Cross and Red Crescent movement, which is a road map for the implementation of the four core sectors of CRC Strategic Plan 2011-2020, CRC has seen much progress and obtained successive achievements, she added.

Addressing to the celebration, Samdech Techo Hun Sen lauded the humanitarian activities of CRC and thanked the CRC’s officials at all levels, CRC volunteers, monks, sub-national authorities, and charitable people as well as development partners who have joined hand in hand to save the vulnerable people.

CRC has developed very fast through resource and power provision to CRC’s branches and sub-branches to help people easily and timely with the highest effectiveness, Samdech Techo Hun Sen continued.

Moreover, the prime minister highly appreciated CRC for having maintained its independence in assisting the victims, and admired the CRC’s volunteer youth group for their social works such as road traffic law dissemination, volunteer blood donations, and so on.

On the occasion, over US$14 million were collected from local and foreign charitable people, according to the preliminary figures. His Majesty the King and Her Majesty the Queen-Mother granted each US$10,000.
