PM Presides Over the Fifth Mandate’s First Cabinet Meeting

image001The first cabinet plenary session of the fifth-mandate Royal Government of Cambodia was held here image002this morning at the Peace Palace under the chairmanship of re-elected Prime Minister Samdech Akka Moha Sena Padei Techo Hun Sen.

Addressing to his new cabinet members, Samdech Techo Hun Sen said it was another historical milestone for Cambodia. “The most important agenda for the first cabinet meeting is the launching of the royal government’s Rectangular Strategy-Phase III,” he said.

The Cambodian premier urged his new cabinet ministers to further pay attention to reforms in all fields and announced to dissolve at least two supreme councils and to review some national commissions for the future annulment by handing over all duties to the concerned ministries.    

“Reforms are the top priority for Cambodia and the country will continue deepening reforms in all fields in order to increase competitions, to sustain economic growth and to reduce poverty,” he underlined.

Samdech Techo Hun Sen took the opportunity to criticize corruption acts in different ministries and institutions and to warn to take action against them if they are found guilty.  

The prime minister also laid stress on the pay rise, stressing that from next year, the civil servants’ monthly salary will increase by 40,000 Riel (US$10) for those in category A, and by 80,000 Riel (US$20) for those in categories B, C and D, while the military and police officers will have a monthly food allowance of 120,000 Riel (US$30), up from 45,000 Riel (US$11.25) .

At the meeting, the bilingual (Khmer and English) political platform of the Royal Government of Cambodia of the Fifth Legislature of the National Assembly and the Government’s Rectangular Strategy-Phase III were released.
