PM Meets New UNDP Resident Representative

image001Samdech Akka Moha Sena Padei Techo Hun Sen, Prime Minister of the Kingdom of Cambodia, received here yesterday at the Peace Palace new Resident Coordinator of the United Nations and Resident Representative of United Nations Development Programme (UNDP) in Cambodia Ms. Claire Van der Vaeren.

During the meeting, the Cambodian premier said that Cambodia has been preparing the third phase of rectangular strategy and he thus sought Ms. Vaeren’s cooperation to ensure that this strategy is in line with that of the UN, H.E. Ieng Sophalet, assistant to the prime minister, told reporters after the talk.

Cambodia needs not only financial, but also intellectual support from its development partners to further promote the country development, underlined Samdech Techo Hun Sen.

For her part, Ms. Claire Van der Vaeren expressed the UN’s support to the sustainable development in Cambodia and stated that the UN will help Cambodia achieve its Millennium Development Goals by 2015.

According to Ms. Vaeren, the UN aid program particularly focused on sustainable economic development and the issues of health, education, gender equality, good governance and social protection.

In reply, Samdech Techo Hun Sen thanked the UN agencies for their cooperation and support to Cambodia’s social protection strategy and highlighted the efforts of the Royal Government of Cambodia in implementing seriously this strategy.

The Cambodian prime minister said that the elimination of all commercial fishing lots and the nation-wide land titling program are also part of the social protection strategy.
