Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Foreign Affairs and International Cooperation H.E. Hor Namhong received here this morning visiting Special Representative of the Roll Back Malaria Partnership (RBM) Princess Astrid of Belgium.
In the meeting, Princess Astrid highly valued and congratulated the Royal Government of Cambodia on its efforts as well as its success in combating malaria, H.E. Ouch Borith, Secretary of State for Foreign Affairs and International Cooperation told reporters after the meeting.
Princess Astrid further underlined that Cambodia is a model country for other countries, especially for the African countries, in the fight against malaria, he added.
For his part, H.E. Hor Namhong thanked Princess Astrid for her endeavors to support Cambodia’s national anti-malaria program.
Cambodia’s success in combating malaria is inseparable from partner and friendly countries’ support, stressed the Cambodian deputy prime minister.
H.E. Hor Namhong also suggested a meeting between malaria experts from Cambodia, Laos, Thailand and Vietnam to issue a joint action plan to fight against malaria.
Princess Astrid of Belgium visited Cambodia from Apr. 24 to 26. During her stay in the Kingdom, she attended the celebration of Cambodia National Malaria Elimination Day and World Malaria Day held yesterday in Phnom Sruoch district, Kampong Speu province, and joined the WHO’s launching of “Emergency Response to Artemisinin Resistance in the Greater Mekong Subregion” in Phnom Penh.
