Cambodian Premier Calls for More Cooperation in the ACMECS

image002Samdech Akka Moha Sena Padei Techo Hun Sen, Prime Minister of the Kingdom of Cambodia, called for more ACMECS (Ayeyawady-Chao Phraya-Mekong Economic Cooperation Strategy) cooperation.

Addressing the 5th ACMECS Summit held this morning in Vientiane, Laos, Samdech Techo Hun Sen highly valued the exiting cooperation and urged the ACMECS members to further expand their cooperation, which not only reflects the importance of this sub-regional economic cooperation strategy, but also contributes to ASEAN connectivity and ASEAN Community building by 2015.

The Cambodian premier congratulated Cambodia and Thailand on the launch of the ACMECS Single Visa in late December 2012 and appealed to other ACMECS member countries to participate in implementing the ACMECS Single Visa so as to achieve the goal of “Five countries, one tourism destination” by 2015.

In terms of climate change, Samdech Techo Hun Sen called for more cooperation among the ACMECS member countries to deal with the negative impacts of climate change by promoting the implementation of the action plan on environmental cooperation.

Samdech Techo Hun Sen took the opportunity to ask the Lao, Thai and Vietnamese sides to stop buying rosewood from Cambodia even rosewood furniture.

The Cambodian prime minister further laid stress on the importance of contribution from private sector and official development partners in the ACMECS cooperation
