Cambodian Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Foreign Affairs and International Cooperation H.E. Hor Namhong on Tuesday held a talk here with visiting U.S. Assistant Secretary of State for Democracy, Human Rights, and Labor H.E. Michael Posner.
In the meeting, H.E. U.S. Assistant Secretary of State recognized the democracy and the human rights development in Cambodia, H.E. Ouch Borith, Secretary of State at the Ministry of Foreign Affairs and International Cooperation said.
According to H.E. Ouch Borith, H.E. Michael Posner also raised the cases of self-imposed exile opposition leader Sam Rainsy, and President of the Association of Democrats and Owner of Beehive Radio FM 105 MHz Mr. Mom Sonando.
In those cases, H.E. Hor Namhong told the U.S. side that Sam Rainsy and Mom Sonando’s conviction is the duty of the court, they are not political motivation.
Mr. Sam Rainsy was sentenced by Cambodian court to 11 years in prison in absentia for removing Cambodia-Vietnam border poles, and publishing a false map of the border with Vietnam, while Mom Sonando was sentenced to 20 years in prison for the mastermind of the secessionist movement.
