Late King-Father Norodom Sihanouk’s Remains-Gathering Ceremony

image003Royal family members gathered this morning in the Remains-Gathering image005Ceremony held at the open square of Veal Preah Merhu, in front of the National Museum, next to the Royal Palace under the presidency of His image008Majesty King Norodom Sihamoni and Her Majesty Queen-Mother Norodom Monineath Sihanouk.

image013Samdech Akka Moha Ponhea Chakrei Heng Samrin, President of the National Assembly; Samdech Akka Moha Sena Padei Techo Hun Sen, Prime Minister; and Deputy Prime Minister image016and Minister of the Royal Palace H.E. Kong Sam Ol as well as many other high-ranking officials image020were also present at the ceremony.

After the gathering, the Royal Ashes were moved from Veal Preah Merhu in a procession toward the Chaktomuk River (Four Arms of the Mekong), in front of the Royal Palace, while the Royal Relics were put in an urn and kept at the Southern Pavilion located in Veal Preah Merhu.

image017According to the schedule, the Royal Urn will be moved to the Royal Palace in another ceremony of Feb. 7.

The Body of the late King-Father Samdech Preah Norodom Sihanouk was cremated on Feb. 4 at 6:30 pm with sadness and tearfulness of tens of thousands Cambodian people, civil servants, high-ranking officials and royal families after being kept for more than three months at the Royal Palace.

King-Father Samdech Preah Norodom Sihanouk passed away on Oct. 15, 2012 at 01:20 am (local time in Phnom Penh) in Beijing, China at the age of 90 from natural causes.
