PM: The King-Father’s Crematorium To Cost Only US$1.2 Million

image004Prime Minister Samdech Akka Moha Sena Padei Techo Hun Sen has announced that the construction of the late image005King-Father Samdech Preah Norodom Sihanouk’s crematorium will cost only about US$1.2 million.

During a visit yesterday to the cremation site in the open square of Veal Preah Merhu in front of the National Museum, next to the Royal Palace Samdech Techo Hun Sen rejected a recent report claiming that the construction would cost around US$5 million.

The crematorium construction has so far achieved 65 percent after it began six weeks ago. The construction is expected to complete at the end of the 3rd week of January 2013.

According to the schedule, the cremation for the late King-Father will be held on Feb. 4, 2013. His body will be moved from the Royal Palace to Veal Preah Merhu on Feb. 1.

King-Father Samdech Preah Norodom Sihanouk passed away on Oct. 15, 2012 at 01:20 am (local time in Phnom Penh) in Beijing, China at the age of 90 from natural causes. His body was brought home two days after.
