Cambodian Premier Receives Chinese Defense Minister

Samdech Akka Moha Sena Padei Techo Hun Sen, Prime Minister of the Kingdom of Cambodia, held here yesterday afternoon a talk with visiting Chinese Defense Minister H.E. Liang Guanglie.

In the meeting, H.E. Liang Guanglie stressed on the importance of Cambodia-China comprehensive and strategic partnership, saying that it has contributed to the development of Cambodia and the region as well as to the regional stability, H.E. Ieng Sophalet, Assistant to the Cambodian prime minister told reporters after the meeting.

The Chinese defense minister told Samdech Techo Hun Sen of his visit, the purpose of which, he said, is to implement the agreement reached by the Governments of Cambodia and China during the Chinese President’s recent visit to Cambodia, so as to strengthen and expand the historical friendship and cooperation between the two armies as well as between the two nations, he said.

H.E. Liang Guanglie highly appreciated the wise leadership of Samdech Techo Hun Sen, which has brought about peace, development and political stability to the country.

He further informed the Cambodian premier of his meeting with Cambodian Deputy Prime Minister National Defense Minister H.E. Tea Banh and China’s grant of nearly US$20 million to help building military hospitals and training Cambodian military personnel.

For his part, the Cambodian premier expressed his profound thanks to the Chinese people and government for their assistance to Cambodia and agreed with H.E. Liang Guanglie’s comment over Cambodia-China compressive and strategic partnership, H.E. Ieng Sophalet said.

H.E. Liang Guanglie arrived here on May 27 for a four-day official visit. He is scheduled to hold a 30-minute consultative meeting with ASEAN defense ministers this evening in a bid to build closer cooperation between China and Southeast Asian countries and to explain China’s stance on the South China Sea.
