Cambodian Premier Receives ASEAN Military Leaders

Cambodian Prime Minister Samdech Akka Moha Sena Padei Techo Hun Sen received here yesterday at the Peace Palace visiting ASEAN Chiefs of Defense Forces led by Gen. Agus Suhartono, Commander-in-Chief of Indonesian National Defense Forces.

In the meeting, Samdech Techo Hun Sen urged for more cooperation among the ASEAN defense forces on combating terrorism, H.E. Ieng Sophalet, Assistant to the Cambodian premier told reporters upon the meeting.

Samdech Techo Hun Sen further said that military cooperation among the ASEAN member states had seen much progress in recent years, but some challenges, especially disaster, cross border crimes and anti-terrorism, still remain, said the assistant.

The Cambodian prime minister also suggested the ASEAN defense forces to consider a joint cooperation for the UN peacekeeping mission, he said.

The ASEAN military leaders came to Cambodia to attend the 9thASEAN Chiefs of Defense Forces Informal Meeting (ACDFIM) held on Mar. 27 in Phnom Penh.
