During his stay in the Kingdom, H.E. U Thein Sein was received on Mar. 21 in a royal audience by His Majesty Norodom Sihamony, King of Cambodia.
On the same day, the visiting president of Myanmar met at the Peace Palace with Cambodian Prime Minister Samdech Akka Moha Sena Padei Techo Hun Sen.
It was a close and fruitful meeting, H.E. Khieu Kanharith, Minister of Information and Government Spokesperson told reporters after the meeting.
Both sides spoke highly of the development of relationship between the two countries and informed each other of political and economic situation in their respective countries, he said.
H.E. U Thein Sein expressed his support to Cambodia ’s candidacy as a non-permanent member of the UN Security Council for 2013-2014 and Cambodia ’s initiative on the establishment of the Rice Exporters Association in ASEAN, he added.
H.E. U Thein Sein also thanked the Royal Government of Cambodia for its support to Myanmar on the regional and international arenas, and agreed to boost the economic relations between the two countries, said H.E. Khieu Kanharith.
H.E. U Thein Sein also informed Samdech Techo Hun Sen of the reform program in his country and the general election on April 1 and invited two observers from each ASEAN member countries to monitor the elections, he said.
For his part, Samdech Techo Hun Sen said H.E. U Thein Sein’s two-day state visit in Cambodia will further strengthen the ties of friendship and cooperation between the two nations and peoples, and he strongly hoped that the ASEAN Community will be formed by 2015 after Myanmar takes over the ASEAN chairmanship in 2014, H.E. Khieu Kanharith said.
Samdech Techo Hun Sen proposed the Burmese side to increase the bilateral trade with Cambodia and said as the ASEAN Chair this year, Cambodia will promote the ASEAN Community spirit and the ASEAN integration, he said.
Samdech Techo Hun Sen also expressed Cambodia ‘s intention to help Myanmar in landmine clearance if the country needs, underlined H.E. Khieu Kanharith.
President of the Republic of the Union of Myanmar H.E. U Thein Sein arrived in Cambodia on Mar. 21 from Vietnam . After Cambodia , he will continue his visit to Laos .
