Cambodian Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Foreign Affairs and International Cooperation H.E. Hor Namhong this morning received Ms. Valerie Amos, UN Under-Secretary-General for Humanitarian Affairs and Emergency Relief Coordinator.
In the meeting, H.E. Hor Namhong expressed profound thanks to the UN for its donation to Cambodia during the devastating flood last year, H.E. Kuy Kuong, Undersecretary of State of Foreign Affairs and International Cooperation told reporters upon the meeting.
H.E. Hor Namhong also informed the visiting UN under-secretary-general about the role of the National Committee for Disaster Management (NCDM) and its cooperation with UN’s agencies in providing emergency relief to the flood-affected victims, and asked the UN to further support the NCDM, the spokesperson said.
In reply, Ms. Valerie Amos said the purpose of her visit to Cambodia is to examine the cooperation both at the national and regional levels. She also highly appreciated the Cambodian Red Cross (CRC) for having provided on time emergency relief to the victims, and promised to assist the NCDM and CRC in capacity building and technical support.
