Germany donates 1.37 millions to demine in cambodia

On 10 February 2010, at the Ministry of Foreign Affairs and International Cooperation, His Excellency Ouch Borith, Secretary of State of the  Ministry of Foreign Affairs and International Cooperation and His Excellency Frank M. Mann, Ambassador Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary of the Federal Republic of Germany signed an Agreement on “Humanitarian Demining in Oddar Meanchey and Siem Reap Provinces”  to the amount of $ 1,370,000.00 for 2010. The signing ceremony was presided over by His Excellency Deputy Prime Minister HOR Namhong, Minister of Foreign Affairs and International Cooperation.

During the signing, His Excellency Frank M. Mann said the German government will continue to support the demining sector including strengthening the capability of demining officers, providing trainings to the mine engineering officers, and he also reaffirmed the German government’s commitment to putting Cambodian people out of mine danger and improving their living condition by reducing poverty.

His Excellency Koy Kuong, Under Secretary of State, Spokesman of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs and International Cooperation, said that the project will be implemented by CMAC Demining Unit 6 to demine 405 hectares of land and will benefit 700 families.

The project has been sponsored by Germany since 1999. The amount of the grant aid for 1999-2009 is more than $ 10 millions (more than 9 millions in cash and 1.2 millions in materials.)
