NA President Urges AIPA To Help Member Countries in Crisis

preahvihearimage251[1]Cambodian National Assembly President Samdech Akka Moha Ponhea Chakrei Heng Samrin has raised the encroachment of Thai troops on Cambodian territory in Preah Vihear, urging the member countries of the ASEAN Inter-Parliamentary Assembly (AIPA) to help the other members, which are in security as well as economic crisis.

Cheam Yeap, president of the economic, financial, banking and audit commission of the National Assembly said this last Saturday upon the return of the Cambodian delegation from the 30th AIPA held from August 2-6 in Pattaya, Thailand.

The NA president has further asked the ASEAN countries to help each other to reduce the gap between the rich and the poor countries.

According to Cheam Yeap, the 30th meeting of AIPA has focused on five important points – safety, security, politics in the region; economic, commercial cooperation and foreign investment; social security and public health strengthening; sustainable development; and information technology and telecommunication.

The meeting has also officially accepted Brunei, an observer country, as an AIPA member and agreed that the 31st AIPA would take place from August 19-25, 2010 in Hanoi, Vietnam.

After the meeting, the Cambodian delegation led by Samdech Heng Samrin, paid an official visit to the Kingdom of Thailand on Aug. 7-8 at the invitation of Thai Parliament President and Speaker of the House of Representatives Chai Chid Chob. It was warmly welcomed by Thai king and leaders.

It also signed a protocol on the cooperation agreement in visit exchange between the high-ranking officials, the officials of the standing committees and the general secretariat of the two National Assemblies.
