King-Father Norodom Sihanouk and Queen-Mother Norodom Monineath Sihanouk arrived in Siem Reap province on Thursday afternoon after receiving medical treatment for almost a year in the People’s Republic of China.
The retired monarchs were warmly welcomed at the airport by His Majesty Norodom Sihamoni, King of Cambodia, Samdech Akka Moha Ponhea Chakrei Heng Samrin, President of the National Assembly, Sar Kheng, Minister of Interior, Kong Sam Ol, Minister of the Royal Palace and other members of the royal family as well as high-ranking officials.
The retired king will stay in the kingdom until September 2, 2009 according to his message dated on June 27.
The 87-year-old former monarch left here for Beijing in early August 2008 for cancer treatment. He has announced recently that his third bout of cancer had been cured.
King-Father Norodom Sihanouk is one of the main personalities of Cambodia. He had struggled over independence from France and won lawsuit over Preah Vihear Temple against Thailand at the International Court of Justice (ICJ).
